The country has now a total of 48 airports in Uganda, of which 6 of them have paved runways and 42 are unpaved. 13 of Uganda’s airfields are managed by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Many of the smaller airfields are for lodges, safari camps, and other remote areas.

1. Entebbe International Airport
The biggest airport in Uganda, Entebbe International Airport is located about 25 miles (40 km) southwest of the capital city of Kampala.
Not only is it a civilian airport, but it is also used by the Ugandan military.
It also serves as the country’s only international airport. Hoima, or Kabaale, International Airport is currently under construction, which is why it’s excluded from this list.

2. Hoima International Airport
This Uganda’s second international airport under construction IN Hoima district, in western. The airport is not yet coded with IATA and, ICOA. Hoima airport is part of the infrastructure under construction as Uganda prepares to develop its nascent petroleum industry. When completed, it would be Uganda’s second international airport, besides Entebbe International Airport. The new airport is expected to facilitate mobilization of equipment for construction of the Uganda Oil Refinery and assist in the development of agriculture and tourism in Uganda’s Western Region.
3. Gulu Airport
Gulu airport is located in Gulu city, Northern Region of Uganda, about 190 miles (306 km) north of Entebbe by air. In 2019, plans to revamp the airport to an international standards were made which plans are still awaiting. Gulu airport is coded with IATA Code: ULU, ICAO Code: HUGU, Airport Type: Civilian and Military, Number of Runways: 1, Runway Length: 10,170.6 feet (3,100 m), Runway Direction: 17/35, Type of Runway: Asphalt.
4. Nakasongola Airport
Nakasongola Airport is the largest airport in Uganda to be used exclusively as a military airport. It was constructed by an Israeli company back in the 1970s. It has no IATA and ICOA codes, it’s largely a Military airstrip with one runway of the length 9,842 ft (3,000 m), and the runway is an Asphalt with and its direction is 02/20
5. Mutukula Airport
Mutukula Airport is located in Rakai very close to the Tanzanian border, in the central region and has a runway made of grass. This airfield has no IATA and ICAO Codes, it’s a Civilian and Military with one Number of Runways which is spread on a length of 8,530 ft (2,600 m). The runway is unpaved spread on grass and looks in the direction of the runway is 07/25.
6. Soroti Airfield
It’s located in Soroti town is Soroti city northeastern Uganda, the airport is encoded AITA Code: SRT, ICAO Code: HUSO, it’s fully a civilian airport with two runways 2 of length: 7,452 ft (2,271 m), the runway direction 05/23 and 09/27.
7. Masindi Airport
This airport is located in western region in Masindi town, it’s encoded by IATA Code: KCU and ICAO Code: HUMI, with the Civilian and length: 6,700 ft (2,042 m), runway Direction: 01/19, and unpaved.
8. Savannah, or Kihihi, Airstrip
It’s an active airstrip located in Kisoro district southwestern Uganda. The airstrip is used by mainly tourist who are heading for trekking the mountain gorillas. The airport is encoded by IATA Code: KHX and ICAO Code: N/A, it’s for civilians with one runway whose length is 5,965 ft (1,818 m), in the direction of 02/20.
9. Pakuba Airport
Located within the Heart of Murchison Falls National Park on the northern section. It’s located in a center near to game spot, and almost it’s used only by tourists. The airport is encoded by IATA Code: PAF, and ICAO Code: HUPA, it’s a civilian airport with one runway whose length 5,774 ft (1,760 m), situated in the direction of 07/25 and it’s a Murram (Gravel) runway.
10. Arua Airfield
The serving airstrip in Western Nile side of Northern Uganda. It’s located about 2 miles away from Arua City. This airstrip is named by IATA Code: RUA, and ICAO Code: HUAR. It’s a civilian airstrip with one runway whose length is, 906 ft (1,800 m). The runway direction is 18/36, and it’s a Murram (Gravel) type of runway.
11. Kasese Airport
It’s one of the airstrips which were in plans of renovation to the international standard. However, the implementations to make these plans work. Kasese airstrip is a civilian airstrip which serves the Rwenori region in western Uganda. It’s internationally encoded by IATA Code: KSE, and ICAO Code: HUKS. The airstrip has one runway whose length is 5,741 ft (1,750 m), placed in the direction of 01/19, and the runway is of grass.
12. Kotido Airport
It’s located in Kitido district in northern Uganda, it’s not recognized by IATA, has an ICAO Code: HUKO. It’s a civilian airstrip, has one runway which unpaved whose length is 5,249 ft (1,600 m). This runway is positioned in a direction of 06/24.
13. Moroto Airport
The airport which feeds the northeastern Uganda, mainly the Karamoja land. It’s a civilian airstrip without an IATA Code, but having the ICAO Code: HUMO. The airstrip has one runway whose length is 5,249 ft (1,600 m), placed in the direction of 13/31 and made of Murram (Gravel).
14. Chobe Safari Lodge Airport
It’s a private airfield operated by Chobe Safari Lodge at Murchison Falls National Park, Kiryandongo District, and Western Region. It has no IATA and ICAO codes. It has one runway of length 5,102 ft (1,555 m) and made of gravel.
15. Bugungu Airstrip
Located in Murchison Falls National Park in Bujenje, Western Region. It has no IATA, its encoded ICAO Code: HUGG. It’s a civilian airstrip with one runway whose length is 5,055 ft (1,540 m), which is position 05/23.
16. Mbarara, or Nyakisharara, Airport
It serves the largest area in western Uganda, this airstrip had an IATA Code: MBQ, and ICAO Code: HUMA. It’s a civilian with one runway of length 4,921 ft (1,500 m), this runway direction is 11/29 and is a murram (Gravel).
17. Tororo Airport
The airstrip located in eastern Uganda, it has an IATA Code: TRY and ICAO Code: HUTO. This civilian airstrip which is served with all domestic/regional airfield with one runway of 4,921 ft (1,500 m) length, positioned at 18/36 direction and it’s a Murram (Gravel).
18. Jinja Airport
The closest airfield to Entebbe airport, it a flight from Entebbe to Jinja airfield can last for about 30 minutes. The airfield has both IATA Code: JIN and ICAO Code: HUJI, it serves a civilian and military. The airfield has one Murram runway that has a length of 4,921 ft (1,500 m), and it positioned in a direction of 13/31.
19. Kitgum Airport
The farther northern Uganda airstrip is also located in Kitgum town, this is not recognized by IATA but has ICAO Code: HUKT. The civilian has one dirt runway with a length of 4,921 ft (1,500 m) which is positioned in a direction of 15/33.
20. Kidepo Airport
It’s a civilian airstrip located in the heart of Kidepo Valley National Park in Northeastern Uganda. It receives largely tourists going for the adventure at the park. It’s the furthest airstrip in Uganda. It has no IATA Code, and the ICAO Code: HUKD. The airstrip has one runway of length 4,921 ft (1,500 m) in the direction 09/27.
21. Kabale Airport
Another one southwestern Uganda, this airstrip has no IATA Code, and the ICAO Code: HUKB. It’s a civilian airstrip with one runway which is 4,593 ft (1,400 m) long, in the direction of 12/30. The runway is unpaved (possibly grass).
22. Moyo Airport
The IATA Code: OYG, and the ICAO Code: N/A, It’s a civilian airstrip has one runway of length 4,258 ft (1,298 m) of direction 02/20 and unpaved.
23. Kakira Airport
It’s a private airstrip operated by Kakira Sugar works. Kakira airstrip is a civilian airstrip has no IATA Code, but the ICAO Code: HUKK. The airstrip has one runway of length 4,199 feet (1,280 m) of direction 01/19 and Unpaved. It’s close to Jinja airfield about 20km.
24. Mweya Airport
The airstrip which serves travelers/tourists going to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This is a civilian airstrip, there is no IATA Code, and the ICAO Code: HUMW. The airstrip has one grassy runway with a length of 4,117 ft (1,255 m), the runway has a direction of 06/24.
25. Kisoro Airport
The other airstrip in southwestern Uganda, the region is served with Kihihi, Kabale and Kisoro airstrips. This is a civilian airstrip without an IATA Code, but having an ICAO Code: HUKI. The airstrip has one asphalt runway which is spread in the length of 3,937 ft (1,200 m). The runway was set in the direction of 18/36.
25. Pader (Patongo) Airfield
It’s located between Gulu and Kitgum airstrips in northern Uganda. It’s easiest way to access Pader district. The airfield has neither an IATA Code nor ICAO Code, with one murram runway of length of 3,937 ft (1,200 m) in the direction of 00/18.
