London Gatwick is added to Uganda Airline Booking List
Uganda Airline has added London Gatwick airport to their destination booking system list of destinations.
The move has preceded moment where Uganda was seeking have direct flight from Entebbe to Europe, this has flashed excitement among travelers eager for a direct route between Uganda and the UK.
Flights to London are not yet made available for booking, the progress submits that Uganda Airlines is in the ultimate stages of grounding to bring the much-awaited route closer to reality.
This comes after Uganda carrier got a setback on flying to Heathrow Airport. Uganda Airlines has been eyeing flights to London for several years as part of its broader expansion strategy, which includes doubling its fleet and increasing international destinations.
Uganda airline had secured landing opportunity at Heathrow Airport after acquiring two Airbus A330-800 Neo aircraft in 2020 and 2021.
Nevertheless, supervisory hurdles stopped the airline from procuring flying clearance from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
However, the airline persisted on securing UK flying slot, and successfully acquired landing slots at London Gatwick Airport, a major international hub in South London.
The airline’s readiness was boosted after it successfully completed ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) safety audits, a crucial step in gaining regulatory approval for long-haul flights.
Late of last year, Uganda High Commission in London confirmed that Uganda Airlines was set to launch direct flights to London in 2024.
A delegation led by CEO Jennifer Bamuturaki travelled to the UK for discussions with aviation authorities, business leaders, and members of the Ugandan diaspora.
These engagements were aimed at finalizing operational details and fostering business ties ahead of the launch.
